- Definitions
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of machines to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as recognizing speech or making decisions.
- Generative AI is a subset of AI that involves using machine learning models to generate new content, such as text, images, or videos.
- Language models (LLMs) are a type of machine learning model that are trained on large amounts of text data and can be used for a variety of natural language processing tasks.
- GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a type of LLM developed by OpenAI that has been widely used for natural language generation tasks.
- ChatGPT Prompt tips
- Roles - tell ChatGPT what role to play, such as a language teacher or personal motivator.
- Context - provide detailed background information to help ChatGPT understand the situation and provide more relevant responses.
- Converse - engage in conversation with ChatGPT and ask for changes, improvements, or clarifications to its responses.
- Analyse - identify strong and weak points in ChatGPT's answers to better understand its capabilities and limitations.
- Focus - use ChatGPT to support your areas of expertise, such as scientific publishing or risk assessment.
- Polite - be engaging and friendly with ChatGPT, as this can improve the quality of its responses.
- Guide - provide specific information and examples of outputs you want to help ChatGPT generate more useful responses.
- Separate - use different chats for different topics and name each chat to help keep track of your conversations.
- ChatGPT Limitations
- 2021 data cut-off - ChatGPT is only trained on data up to 2021, so it may not be familiar with more recent events or developments.
- No internet access - ChatGPT requires internet access to function properly.
- Eager to please and makes stuff up - ChatGPT may try to please its user by making up information if it doesn't know the answer, which can lead to incorrect or misleading responses.
- Different GPT models - there are different versions of GPT, such as GPT3.5 and GPT4, with varying levels of intelligence and accessibility.
- You won’t get the same answer twice - ChatGPT's responses may vary each time you ask the same question.
- Free version is often inaccessible - the free version of ChatGPT can be inaccessible due to high demand.
- Limited memory (context window) - ChatGPT's responses are limited by the amount of context it can remember.

- Generative AI Concerns
- Bias in outputted information - Generative AI models can perpetuate biases present in the training data, leading to unfair or discriminatory outputs.
- Data privacy - the storing of inputted data, which can potentially be used for malicious purposes or be accessed by unauthorized parties.
- Misuse for misinformation / disinformation - Generative AI can be used to create fake or misleading content for malicious purposes.
- Credibility and reputational risk from fake / incorrect content - Output from Generative AI models can be inaccurate or misleading, leading to reputational damage or loss of trust.
- Environmental impact of training and using LLMs - LLMs require large amounts of computing power and energy to train and use, which can have a significant environmental impact.
- Copyright of training data and produced outputs - There may be legal or ethical concerns around the ownership and use of training data and outputs generated by Generative AI.
